Job Description

General Summary:

As part of the Data Analytics team, this position is responsible for developing, improving and maintaining analytical techniques, systems and data for cross-functional and cross-division performance indicators.  The position requires exceptional technical skills to work under limited supervision and in a team environment. The team member should be able to work effectively with other functional areas, leading the integration of existing and new datasets into the Operations Division’s metrics and KPI's. Ideally, they should have extensive experience working with and designing business systems capable of delivering top tier analytics and insight.  Solid project management skills and experience in analysis and managerial reporting and forecasting are required. In addition, experience communicating complex concepts to senior leaders is strongly preferred.  The capability to write complicated SQL and an understanding of database concepts is mandatory as is the ability to program using an object oriented language such as Visual Basic.  The candidate should also be an expert level user of Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

Essential Job Function:

1.     Lead the implementation, support and enhancement of comprehensive data analytics models.  Ensure that the models support best in class data analytics.  Involvement extends to planning and executing detail level activities including decomposition of return calculations, reconciling results, evaluating complicated SQL scripts, defining enhanced reporting and dashboards, ensuring optimal supporting processes, and documenting data and process flows.

2.     Document and analyze current data processes and identify improvement opportunities. Assist in formulating recommendations, developing solutions and executing on recommendations.  Contribute with initiatives to enhance division’s team members understanding of datasets, metrics, and key cross-division business concepts impacting the division’s KPIs.  Work to resolve issues, encouraging a diversity of opinions while lending expertise to implement changes/solutions. Adapt to changing environments by constantly reevaluating department processes, technology, structure, and procedures to ensure that best practices are in place.

3.     Develop a broad understanding of company’s strategy and business, and the systems within the Operations Division. Understand operating processes, assess current effectiveness, provide thought leadership / recommendations on how to optimize current datasets and processes in order to achieve company objectives.  Articulate findings and make recommendations to senior leadership.

4.     Support Executives by preparing performing ad hoc reports and analysis as directed.

5.     Perform all other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Skills:


•         Business acumen.

•         Excellent financial skills, and solid understanding of automotive sales, pricing modeling, and cost analysis.


•         Ability to extract, analyze and draw insight from data in enterprise databases.


•         Programming skills in SQL and object oriented languages including Visual Basic.


•         Strong execution skills complemented by analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills.


•         Exceptional attention to detail and quality.


•         Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


•         Strong orientation toward results coupled with reputation for integrity, creativity and good judgment.


•         Must have the ability to challenge, when appropriate, existing practices.


Education and Experience:


•         7 years of experience in system design, development, testing and implementation.


•         5 years of experience in budgeting, planning and financial modeling / analysis including product pricing and profitability, program or business unit profitability.


•         5 years of financial experience with auto finance, mortgage, credit card or banking organization is preferred.


•         Exceptional knowledge and command of financial reporting and planning systems and processes


•         Expert level understanding of data in financial services organizations and associated technologies


•         Significant experience with advanced data extraction, manipulation and presentation techniques as well as languages such as SQL, SAS or VBA.


•         Major consulting firm / auto industry experience a plus.


•         Bachelor’s degree required. BA/BS Accounting / Computer Science / Business / MIS (or equivalent work experience to substitute for education) from a highly rated school; MBA a plus but not required.

Physical Requirements and Working Condition:

 

Employees in this class are subject to extended periods of sitting, standing and walking, vision to monitor and moderate noise levels. Work is performed in an office environment.
