Job Description

General Summary:

The essential purpose of this position is to provide litigation senior paralegal support within the in-house Legal Team of Hyundai Capital America. The Senior Litigation Paralegal will work directly under the supervision of HCA’s litigation attorneys to process, review and respond to consumer and commercial litigation and complaints involving HCA and its affiliated financial services and insurance companies. Responsibilities include: intake, tracking, reporting, investigation and analysis of litigation and pre-litigation matters; preparation of responses to and negotiation with adverse parties; coordinating with outside counsel and preparing discovery; management of subpoenas and records requests; communication of legal requests and issues to business units; and other duties as assigned. The Senior Litigation Paralegal is also responsible for the managing and updating of procedures and preparation of reporting applicable to the above responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Process, analyze, investigate and prepare responses to attorney-represented customer and consumer complaints , including direct communication with adverse counsel as needed. Assist operational business units in analyzing and responding to customer complaints submitted to various regulatory agencies.
2. Process, analyze, investigate, and report/summarize litigation against the Company; assist in retention and management of outside counsel; prepare discovery and litigation responses; prepare and process settlement agreements and payments and ensure matter dismissal and closure. Maintain docket/calendar for all assigned matters.
3. Preparation of monthly reporting on litigation and complaint matters and updating of related policies and procedures.
4. All other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Knowledge and Skills:

• Strong organizational, analytical, issue-spotting and negotiation skills; ability to exercise independent judgment to make recommendations to in-house attorneys.
• Strong oral and writing skills and attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with adverse parties and employees at all levels in a courteous and professional manner.
• Familiarity with federal and state codes of civil procedure and litigation processes.
• Skilled in use of usual technology, and ability to become proficient on CounselorLibrary, LEXIS-NEXIS, PACER and other legal research tools and software; Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Willingness to undertake substantial and diverse job responsibilities; ability to work independently and as part of legal and business teams.

Education and Experience:

CA B&P Code 6450 Paralegal Certificate required.
Minimum eight (8) years relevant litigation experience, including law firm and/or in-house position(s), required.
Financial institution/captive finance in-house legal department and regulatory and consumer compliance experience preferred.
Notary credential preferred.

Employees in this class are subject to extended periods of sitting, standing and walking, light file lifting, vision to monitor and moderate noise levels. Work is performed in an office environment.
