Job Description

General Summary:

This position is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting for Hyundai Capital America’s insurance product portfolio (Hyundai Capital Insurance) which consists of Vehicle Service Contracts, GAP coverage, Certified Pre-Owned Warranties, and other vehicle protection products.  This position will work with the external program administrator, actuaries, and other internal team members to deliver accurate and timely financial reporting to key stakeholders within the company.  Hyundai Protection Plan is a growing business and the successful candidate must be comfortable performing multiple roles and will champion strong financial controls and business practices while helping the organization deliver superior service to our dealers and customers.     



Essential Job Function:


1.    Works with external program administrator, actuaries, and affiliated companies to ensure accounting and reporting of the insurance products (vehicle service contracts, GAP insurance, etc.) is accurately reported. 

2.    Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting for Hyundai Capital’s insurance companies.  Works with other team members and external program administrator to complete annual financial statement audit.

3.    Promotes a well-controlled finance environment which includes developing and maintaining policies and procedures, completing or supervising monthly ledger account reconciliations, and coordinating with parent company on consolidation entries. 

4.    Projects - Assist the implementation of all special projects related to Hyundai Capital Insurance.

5.    Partners with Corporate Treasury to manage monthly cash transfers to other affiliated companies, dealer controlled reinsurance entities, and other partners.  Forecasts monthly cash needs and ensures maximum return is achieved on investment cash.

6.    All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:


•         Broad technical accounting background and a solid understanding of insurance accounting for products where the company has claims risk (e.g. vehicle service contracts, GAP coverage, etc.). 

•         Problem solver and strong decision making abilities.  Good knowledge of how accounting systems are structured and function.

•         Solid knowledge of intercompany accounting; ability to identify when intercompany receivables/payables must eliminate and the impact on consolidated reporting.

•         Excellent leadership and teamwork skills with the ability to lead staff to complete assignments. 

•         Strong analytical, presentation, communication, and organizational skills.  Self-starter and highly motivated.

•         Strong personal computer skills with advanced MS Excel skills; Ability to develop database queries and extract data used for reporting or reconciliations.

•         Able to establish a high level of credibility with all levels of internal operations, both technical and non-technical.

•         High energy and ability to work in a fast paced business environment.

Education and Experience:


•         Bachelor’s degree in accounting required

•         CPA/MBA preferred

•         Prior public audit experience (or equivalent) strongly desired

•         6 years of relevant accounting experience with emphasis on the insurance, automotive, or financial services industries preferred


Physical Requirements and Working Condition:


Employees in this class are subject to extended periods of sitting, standing and walking, vision to monitor and moderate noise levels. Work is performed in an office environment
