Job Description

General Summary:

 

The Manager, Corporate Accounting I is responsible to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP in recording company transactions related but not limited to: self-insured group health plan(s) and other corporate operations.  The employee must apply advance knowledge of accounting to exercise discretion and independent judgment in identifying, researching, investigating, analyzing and resolving complex accounting issues.  The employee also must take initiative in developing collaborative relationships with other department team members and counterparties in other departments that will be beneficial to accomplishing work goals, while maintaining excellent internal controls and a high level of service to all stakeholders.

Essential Job Function:

 


•         Perform accounting and administration tasks for self-insured group health plan(s) that would include but not limited to: bank set-up and reconciliation, manage cash flow and withdrawal limits, understand plan experience reports, and understand third-party provided budgets and IBNP (incurred but not paid) accrual estimates to be integrated into financial documents.  Perform research and interpret U.S. GAAP accounting standards and exercise discretion to make independent determinations of the proper accounting practices to apply in individual situations in this area.


•         Apply knowledge of company business to analyze monthly variances related to assigned areas, including performing complex analysis of data and exercising independent judgment to investigate and determine reasons and causes for variances. 


•         Assist with drafting company policy and procedures in assigned areas that directly relate to overall accounting and financial operations of the company.


•         Exercise intellectual judgment in performing reconciliations of assigned monthly general ledger accounts, by utilizing accounting expertise to investigate and analyze account activities and manual entries, to correct identified irregularities, and to substantiate account balances.  Review and analyze reconciliation work of analysts.


•         Perform assigned month-end close tasks; provide internal and external audit support and all other duties as assigned.

•         Excellent interpersonal communication skills (work well with others)


•         Excellent analytical and interpretive skills to investigate and resolve unique accounting issues


•         Excellent Time management skills (use independent judgment to set priorities to handle workloads and meet deadlines)


•         Good Writing skills (communication in emails and drafting company procedures)


•         Strong understanding and ability to use advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP accounting principles in daily work


•         Extensive knowledge of self-insured related administration and accounting


•         Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and SharePoint


•         Good working knowledge in using Oracle ERP and in creating OBIEE


•         Highly self-motivated, with the ability to work with minimal supervision


Education and Experience:

 


•         Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance


•         5 years in accounting or finance experience


•         Prior extensive experience in proper accounting, recording and administration of self-insured group health plans


•         Application of U.S. GAAP at prior employment preferred


•         Prior experience in auto captive finance industry preferred

Physical Requirements and Working Condition:

*Employees in this class are subject to extended periods of sitting, standing and walking, vision to monitor and moderate noise levels. Work is performed in an office environment.
